Fellowships

As a Research Fellow at DoorDash, you’ll work on the hardest applied ML and AI problems in local commerce. Fellows are given the resources, autonomy, and access to real-world operational data needed to pursue ambitious research directions — with the goal of producing work that influences both the field and how DoorDash operates at scale. Fellows are treated as independent researchers, not as junior employees on a product team. You pick the problem from some of our biggest priority areas, you own the direction, and you publish or ship the outcome.

Fellows are able to propose their own direction, but we are particularly interested in work across

Reinforcement learning environments for real-world operations — building high-fidelity simulators and training environments from operational data, including the tradeoffs between real-data fidelity and synthetic generalization

Agentic systems for logistics and local commerce — long-horizon planning, tool use, and evaluation methodologies for agents operating in physical-world marketplaces

Foundation models for marketplace dynamics — forecasting, pricing, matching, and personalization at marketplace scale

Evaluation and measurement — new benchmarks and evaluation methods for ML systems deployed in messy, real-world operational settings

Multimodal understanding — vision, speech, and language applied to merchant catalogs, operations, and consumer interfaces”

Internships

As an intern at DoorDash, you’ll gain the support and tools you’ll need to make a direct impact on our business. From working closely with industry leaders to solving real-world business problems for our customers, your 12 week internship will be packed with valuable experience to help drive your future and ours.

One of my favorite parts about joining DoorDash as a new grad was the strong new grad community. Coming into the office every day and seeing my peers made work feel a lot more exciting and fun. We’d grab lunch together, hang out after hours, and grow alongside one another as we collectively navigated the start of our careers. The office environment also made everything feel more approachable and inspiring; it wasn’t unusual to casually bump into the CEO or CTO on a random day, which created a sense of connection and transparency across the company.

At the same time, I was given a level of independence and ownership over my work which was both incredibly challenging but also rewarding. I always felt trusted to make meaningful contributions, while also having all the necessary guidance and encouragement I needed from my team. That mix of autonomy, support, and community really made my transition from student to full-time engineer not just smooth, but also exciting!

– Annie Wang,
2024 New Grad

The biggest highlight of my internship was seeing my project go live in production and receive over 100,000 requests a day. Being able to collaborate with my team members and other teams at DoorDash to launch a product made my work feel important and impactful, and it taught me ownership and leadership skills I would not have gained anywhere else.

From even before day one, my mentor and manager were extremely welcoming. They worked hard, but worked even harder to help me adjust to this new environment. They were not only colleagues I talked to during work, but also friends I played pickleball with, laughed with at comedy shows, and enjoyed one too many team dinners alongside.

I could not be more thankful for my experience as an intern at DoorDash.

– Adam Mansour,
2025 New Grad
